Information about parking at Queens University
for Tuesday night rehearsals
(Parking for concerts will NOT be a problem, and will NOT require a campus parking sticker)
The Charlotte Concert Band has been fortunate over the past 15 or so years to have Queens University as its primary sponsor, providing the band with rehearsal and performance space so that Queens students (both music majors and non-majors) can have the opportunity to play in a large ensemble.
During those years, both CCB and Queens have grown, but have created a strain on the college's limited campus parking. This year, Queens has embarked on several construction projects, including a new parking deck, and this has made parking even more of a challenge. The good news is that the new parking deck is scheduled to be completed by next fall! The bad news is that parking will be tighter this year than ever before.
Below are some strategies for getting us through this tough time while maintaining our sanity.
There are two options for parking:
1. Get a Queens University parking sticker and hope to find a spot in one of the campus lots
2. Park away from campus on a residential street (about a 5-10 minute walk to campus).
PARKING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET (OPTION #2)
Myers Park is a safe and attractive neighborhood. If you choose NOT to register your vehicle and just want to avoid campus parking, you should explore parking options along the residential streets and walking.
There is available parking along Roswell Street, Croydon and parts of Bucknell, BUT YOU MUST OBSERVE NO PARKING SIGNS AND AREAS WHERE A CITY RESIDENTIAL PERMIT IS REQUIRED. For folks who enjoy walking and have smaller instruments, you may want to consider parking in the Myers Park United Methodist Church lot at the Selwyn / Queens Road / Providence Road intersection. It takes 11 minutes to get to campus. Please do not park in Myers Park Baptist Church's Cornwell Center Lot.
PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE. If you are younger, play a small instrument, are relatively healthy, etc., PLEASE consider parking away from campus to allow our older players or players with larger instruments to park closer to the auditorium. Percussionists lugging equipment will be parking in the loading dock area.
GETTING A QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY PARKING STICK (OPTION #1)
If you want or need to park closer to the auditorium, you MUST register your vehicle and get a Queens University parking sticker (the Music Department is paying the cost of the parking stickers for band members this year).
Below are detailed instructions for getting a Queens parking sticker for your car. Please read carefully and follow directions.
PLEASE NOTE: AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE IS A MAP OF THE CAMPUS WITH PARKING AREAS MARKED.

Instructions for getting a Queens University parking sticker
If you want to try and park in a Queens University campus parking lot, you MUST register your vehicle and get a parking sticker. If you receive a ticket because you parked in a campus lot without a sticker, we will NOT be able to have that fine waived. Having a parking sticker does NOT guarantee you a parking spot in a campus lot -- it's a hunting license. Securing a spot may require waiting in the lot for a car to leave or going to a lot farther from Dana Auditorium.
Sticker location: Parking stickets should be placed in the lower corner of the back windshield on the driver's side.
Below are detailed instructions about registering your vehicle (or vehicles) with Queens University, including screen shots of the pages you will actually complete. At the bottom is a map showing parking lots available for use. You may use any lot marked "University Permit," but NOT lots marked "Resident Parking."

STEP NO. 6: SUCCESS! PRINT THIS OUT AND BRING IT TO QUEENS
THIS IS THE SHEET THAT YOU BRING TO QUEENS TO GET YOUR STICKER.
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, Angela Steele, Music Department Coordinator, will be outside Dana Auditorium on Wellesley Avenue ready to hand you a parking sticker.
Pull up next to the sidewalk by the doors, give her your sheet and she will hand you a parking sticker for you to attach to the lower driver's-side corner of your back windshield.
You can then try to find a parking space in one of the Queens lots.
If you can't be at the Sept. 6 rehearsal, you will need to come by the Music Office some time during the week to get a parking sticker. You must bring your Parking Registration form (above).
