the charlotte concert band is excited to
introduce Our new chamber music Wind ensembles!
The tradition of chamber music was first established in the late 1700s and early 1800s by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven during the Viennese Classic Era. Generally, a chamber ensemble will consist of duo's, trios, quartets, and quintets but can be adapted to fit any event or performance.
Chamber music is differentiated from solo pieces and works for large groups like an orchestra by the fact that it is typically written for a small group of musicians, each playing a different part, most often without a conductor and meant to be performed in a smaller room or chamber. |
By the twentieth century, chamber music had materialized into full-fledged adulthood, in college for the first time, exploring all of the exciting possibilities life has to offer. The concept of chamber music had become what we understand it to be today. No longer confined to a small chamber and a few string instruments. The possibilities really are endless. It can tell stories, accompany a celebration, express an idea, or simply just be a wonderful work of art. This is why it is such an exciting genre and one that we look forward to sharing with you!
We begin our 56th year with 75 of the most outstanding musicians in the region. During the last two pandemic years, we found a way to continue playing through virtual performances with not only our full band, but also with smaller ensembles. It was this experience that encouraged us to spread our "chamber wings," so to speak, and make the ensembles available for hire.
Virtually speaking, we hope you enjoy the videos.

In case you missed it and are wondering where the players for our ensembles come from, please watch this amazing virtual performance by our full Charlotte Concert Band and our invited guests, the "Wingate University Singers," of Frank Ticheli's "Sailing The Sky." This was a world-premiere performance of one of America's great composer's newest masterpieces. |

We will do our best to make it a great and memorable program.
