Our Membership
Any performer who has above-average playing skills, especially sight reading ability, is eligible to audition for membership openings in the Charlotte Concert Band. The CCB is like a university symphonic band in that there are many outstanding players, some of whom play professionally, but there are also dedicated amateurs who enjoy performing and make a great contribution within their sections. We have performed for the North Carolina Music Educators Conference (2008 and 2015) and for the Stanly County Arts Council Concert Series (2011). You can find recordings of some of our performances on YouTube page.

Auditions
General auditions for the Charlotte Concert Band are typically held in August of each year. After an audition, you may be selected either as a regular member or as a call player. Regular members are asked to attend all rehearsals prior to a concert so that we can prepare a performance that is as near perfect and musically satisfying to our audience as possible. Family and work situations may necessitate an occasional absence, but it is assumed that anyone who chooses to be a part of the CCB will make every effort to support our goal of "outstanding performances of classic concert band repertoire." Call players may be invited to sit in with the CCB when regular members are not available, or to become regular members as positions open within the band. We are eager to grow our call list for all instruments, so please don't hesitate to contact us even if there is not a current membership opening for your instrument.

Prospective players should prepare two brief selections to demonstrate tone quality, control, range, technical ability, and musicianship. These may be solos, etudes, or excerpts from band or orchestral parts.

If you are interested in auditioning or would like additional information on joining the CCB, please complete the information below.

2020-2021 Membership Openings
Unfortunately, due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we have tentatively paused our upcoming concert season. Once we have definitive plans in place to begin rehearsals, we will have a better understanding of any openings within the ensemble. Please complete the new member information request below so we have your contact information on file.

The Music
Our concerts generally include some challenging concert band classics, such as the Suite in F by Holst, Clifton Williams's Symphonic Dance No. 3, Festive Overture by Shostakovich, or Robert Jager's Esprit de Corps, as well as Broadway medleys, jazz standards, and marches to make up an enjoyable program for our audiences. We often feature vocal and instrument soloists to highlight the many talents of our members.

Q. Who conducts the CCB?
A. Our current conductor is Drew Carter. You can read more about him on the About Us Section.

Q. Will I have to audition?

Q. How is seating within sections determined?
A. Seating is determined by the conductor through your audition. We are a cordial and cooperative ensemble.

Q. Where do you rehearse
